2019 overseas market of Chinese students
When it comes to studying abroad, Chinese students need to make big decisions. They have to choose between schools, majors, and many other factors that could affect their journey in the country or even their career.
They certainly do not choose their destination randomly or based on their stereotype about the country.
In this infographic, we show the results of the “New Oriental Education” survey (2019), the most famous provider of private educational services in China. We uncover when Chinese students start having ideas of studying abroad, their preferred destination countries, the top 5 factors that influence their decisions, majors they prefer, and in which countries they spend more.
In 2019, like previous years, Chinese students are still so much impacted by education quality (63%), they also prefer going to a safer country (53%). Besides, many Chinese students nowadays prefer to stay in the country they study instead of going back to China for work, therefore, chosen by 49%, the employment situation comes third. National culture and national strength come in 4th and 5th range with (47% and 45% respectively).
Concerning their preferred majors, the following 5 are the most popular when It comes to studying abroad: Business (28%), engineering (20%), liberal arts (16%), science (14%), and arts (9%). Chinese students also tend to spend more in English speaking countries like the USA (35%) and the UK (17%).
Through this data about Chinese students’ overseas market, host countries and local businesses can be aware of what to consider welcoming them.
